Tyme 2 App Reviews

Please Bring Back Tags

I love Tyme 1. I’ve been using it for several months now, so when Tyme 2 arrived I upgraded right away. Unfortunately one of the features I found most helpful - tags - has been removed. Tags helped me look across all my tasks and projects to determine how much time I had spent on certain types of activities. For me, Tyme 2 is a step back in terms of usefulness. I’d also like to see the buttons to modify entries returned. I much prefer having a button rather than right-clicking to add or modify entries. I do really like the new Time Entries view and the new layout of the Statistics view. Both are very nice. Subtasks are also helpful, but of less value than tags to me. I’m also glad to see that the iOS version now supports iPad. However with the inability to add tags to projects and task, I may end up going back to Tyme 1 for the time being.

Pretty Darn Good

I started using Hours when it was first released and found it extremely helpful when tracking hours worked on projects. It had a few bugs that were eventually fixed but I uaully work at a desktop (sometimes mobile) and wanted a desktop app which Tyme has (along with fewer bugs). I ended up switching to Tyme from Hours and hevn’t looked back. The support for this app is fantastic (fast response with an accurate and helpful answer). It is also a paid-up-front app I know I can use at no additional cost (at least until there is another (assumed) substantial update). It even has a lot more to offer that you see at first glance (which is why I didn’t give it 5 stars, not everything is 100% intuitive at first glance). Compare that to the new Hours. I don’t have a large team to manage so this meets all my needs and don’t require a subscription. I highly recommend this app.

Been looking for a time keeping app like this for a while

So far I’m pretty happy with Tyme 2, and I’m also impressed with how quickly the developer responds to questions. While the app doesn’t do everything that I would like to have, it is far superior and easier to use than my previous time tracking app. I do like the slick color coded interface on Tyme 2 and the little cues that reveal how much time has been completed on a task or project and how much is left. A previous reviewer mentioned that they weren’t able to put tasks in a customized order; however, as of version 1.1.0 or Tyme 2 you just use the “custom” sort menu setting to drag and drop the tasks into any order you’d like. It also allows you to sort by Name, Due Date and Creation Date. I like how you can add notes to each time entry, though you cannot currently add notes to fixed costs and mileage. Hopefully that will come in a future release. Other features I really like include the option to export out via PDF as well as CSV and HTML options. The ability to print out a nicely formatted PDF has been a huge timesaver for me. Now it’s easy to get the time data into a form I can easily keep track of and save with projects and invoices. I do hope to see a future release with the option to customize the output page such as adjusting column width for notes and allowing me to add my company logo. The ability to sync between the desktop app and the iOS app on my phone has also been great. I can see the project progress at a glance when I’m meeting with a client. Overall I’m happy with it— thank you for a great app, Lars!

A step backward from Tyme 1 in too many ways

I use Tyme every day for work and have found it very useful. The color coding and reporting is great. There are a good amount of options. However, as I’ve explored around Tyme 2, it’s becoming more clear how much has been removed from this version compared to Tyme 1. It’s now at the point where I actually won’t use Tyme 2 and will continue with Tyme 1. Usually I’m an early adopter of new software, but this is the rare case where I just can’t do that. The interface is less sophisticated. For example, I apparently can no longer drag and re-arrange the order of projects or tasks. This is the kind of thing you would expect in a 1.0 product, not 2.0. The white scrollbar that’s now present on the side of the window is rather ugly on the dark interface. The main window cant be made as narrow as Tyme 1, which is quite annoying. I normally have Tyme sitting next to another app as part of my workflow and now can’t do that simlpy because Tyme can no longer can be made as narrow as in Tyme 1. There are no longer buttons when you hover over each task to mark one as completed, see stats, etc. It now involves two clicks to see a task’s stats (one to select it, one to click the stats button at the top of the window). You can no longer break down the reporting by year, month, week. I do like the improved breakdown of tasks and projects in the menu bar dropdown. Overall, this has been quite a disappointment. It’s a bummer to pay (again) for a product, hoping to get some nice upgrades, only to have become less usable than before. As I said earlier, I am going to have to stick with Tyme 1 for now. I’m going to monitor any updates to Tyme 2, and I really hope the developer fixes these things. I may be looking into a new time tracker altogether, since I’m sure the developer has probably discontinued future updates for Tyme 1.

Still the best time tracker

I hestitated to upgrade from the excellent Tyme 1 to Tyme 2 because of all the dissatisfaction other reviewers expressed. However, I took the leap, and Im glad I did. Tyme 2 moves away from the innovative UI choices that made Tyme 1 so charming, but also sometimes confusing. Most views show more details. For instance, time entries are now listed in full. There are more export choices—important for fitting into my billing workflow. I didnt use any of the features that were removed. Most importantly, the menubar time tracking that works so well is still the same. I love how it lets me walk away from the computer and either end the sessions—or not. And how it lets me turn the start time back if I leap into a task without starting the timer. All in all, Tyme 2 remains essential to my workflow.

$14.99 for a giant step backwards.

I enjoy the categories feature, but what happened to the notification center widget? I use the widget constantly and suddenly it is gone with the upgrade to Tyme 2. Please bring it back. Not worth the $14.99. Stick with the original Tyme if you are on the fence.
